Gaviota Peak on 12 Jan 2024; at 76 is harder than at 56 LOL
The Gaviota loop
At only 6.5 miles it should be easy; it is not!
Maybe age related, but a very tough climb
Starting out at the parking not to far from beach
A forest service road climbs toward the peak
Its not much of a road, but it is a road
Looking back, 1st view of Pacific
Dave had to waite for me, more than a few times
Bigger view of Pacific
The road to Lompoc in the far distance
You get to points where you are sure you can see the top, but when you get there…..
Its just another view of what you think is the top, ..
it isn’t, …...
… until you finally arrive
Now you turn off service road onto a path to the top
This path only 1/4 mile, but its tough
Finally the actual top at 2,458 feet
There are rewards for hard work
Looking south towards Santa Barbara
The service road continues on along the ridge line
Santa Barbara far coastline
The path down is a rocky very steep path
Hard to keep your balance and footing over the rocks
You pass a cave created by the wind
The path is rough, very rough
I have to take these sections very slow & careful
Short MOVIE after off the rocky path, looking North to south
We took a short cut down a hill, now only 2 miles back to car
