McKinley Peak is over 6,000 feet. It is over 10 miles from the Cachuma Saddle starting point. There and back is just over 20 miles. The hiking trail is almost all on a forest service road. The last 1/2 mile to the Peak is “off the road”, but it is not heavy brush. There are a couple of picnic tables and one nice camp with a spring along the way.
We tried to get there once on mountain bikes, but I basically quit a few miles from the top. Hiking was better for me. This time we made it, but it was a very long day.
