The last time I rode Drum Canyon, the ride ended with me in an Emergency Care center with two fractured bones. However, I learned something very important that day. It all happened in a split second, but I learned that when you see your friend crash directly in front of you and is lying on the sidewalk in pain, there is only one thing to do. RUN OVER HIM!! Slamming on the breaks is a really really bad idea.
This time I did the ride alone. I started in Los Alamos headed toward Lompoc. When I got to the top, I had almost decided to call it a day when this gaggle of old ladies on road bikes came up from the Lompoc side. They had already came up the Los Alamos side, down the Lompoc side and back up again. I figured if they could do the over and back; so could I.
