Cone Peak #4
Home drive way, ready to go
Dave is always ready
Old man at start
Start at Kirk Creek, 10 min in, the climd starts
Short rest during early climb
MOVIE: 36 min in, looking at the 1st ridge
MOVIE: at 51 min in, looking back at trail traveled
It is a twisted trail
at 1 hr 33 min, I like this rock
The path ahead
MOVIE: at 1 hr 51min, making progress
Looking North
Looking South
At 2 hr 33 min, 1st sight of Cone Peak
Cone Peak directly over Daves head (I promised not to say bald head)
MOVIE: 1st water
At 4 hr 5 min we arrive Vincent Flats
I pickout a place for my tent
Basic tent on tarp
add sleeping mat, air mattress, and later sleeping bag
all that = home for the night
A wonderfull couple we met from Europe on their way back to Kirk Creek
Daves tent and a fire
it was getting cold, the fire was nice
My cooking stove for dinner (Supper)
Next morning after a 24 min climb out of the valley
MOVIE: our plan forward
at 56 min out, view looking South
light backpack, heavy stuff left at our camp
this ridgeline has a 2 mile average 30 degree grade
I waited under this tree while Dave checked out the trail
I was a nice place to rest
the path Dave took going down
Dave found the trail washed out and covered with debris It was impassable. we decided to return
Dave leads the way back
In the valley, near camp
3 hours after leaving camp, we are back packing up for return, we left at 12:35
MOVIE: Bad spots that look safe
MOVIE: Bad spots that look bad
…a good trail section
The tree I rested under in the morning hike
40 Min into return, the Pacific looks far away and far below
Looking back
Never made it to Cone Peak, this time
a rare easy section
Movie: after 1 hr, getting closer
Cone Peak in the background
at 1.5 hr, kinda tired
with a long way to go
not only far, but far down
MOVIE: Dave leads the way
there are still rough spots
MOVIE: not my favorite part
This very smart lady had a dog..
carrying his own backpack
at 2.5 hr, the car still seems a long way off
The trail heads North before turing back South. In the far distance is Hwy 1
At 3 hr, a very pretty sign
4 hr to get to Vincente Flats, and 3 hr to get back
In San Luis Obispo there is Pizza
..and a well deserved BEER
